Professor Eduardo Bruera
Eduardo Bruera, MD, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He holds the FT McGraw Chair in the Treatment of Cancer. Dr. Bruera has published more than 800 peer reviewed papers and he has received multiple NIH research grants in the United States. He was president of the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care. His main areas of interest are program development, comparative effectiveness research and clinical trials on symptom control in palliative care.
Professor Tatsuya Morita
Tatsuya Morita, MD, is the Vice President of the Seirei MIkatahara General Hospital and director of the Palliative and Supportive Care Division, Hamamatsu, Japan. He is member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, Journal of Palliative Medicine, and Journal of Palliative Care. He is also the associate editor of the Japanese Journal of Clinical Oncology, and is a clinical professor of medicine at Kyoto University. Dr. Morita has conducted many government-granted research and educational activities, and published more than 200 scientific papers. His main research topics included delirium, palliative sedation, hydration, suffering, and care delivery. He has coordinated a variety of research groups, including epidemiology, symptom research, care delivery system, psycho-oncology, and rehabilitation.
Professor David Currow
David Currow is the Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor of Palliative and Supportive Care, Flinders University, Professor of Palliative Medicine at University of Technology Sydney and Associate Director (Research) at the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre, University of Hull, England. Research includes clinical trials, use of large datasets to understand better the impact of life-limiting illnesses on patients and caregivers, and codifying the evidence base underpinning palliative care. Research into chronic breathlessness is a particular area of expertise.
He is the principal investigator for the Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative (PaCCSC) which has randomised more than 1850 palliative care patients across 21 sites to phase III symptom control studies, and supports an active international phase IV collaborative. These studies have been shown to directly influence clinical practice. He is a foundation partner in the Australian Palliative Care Outcomes Collaborative (PCOC), an initiative to improve systematically clinical outcomes in palliative care. David has published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles, editorials and books. He is senior associate editor of Journal of Palliative Medicine and on the editorial boards of Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, BMJ Supportive and Palliative Care and the Journal of Oncology Practice. David is a former president of Palliative Care Australia and the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia.
Associate Professor Cynthia Goh
Dr Goh is Senior Consultant in the Division of Supportive & Palliative Care at the National Cancer Centre Singapore and Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. She is one of the pioneers of hospice in Singapore, starting as a volunteer at St Joseph’s Home in 1986. She was the Founding President of the Hospice Care Association (now HCA Hospice Care). She was Medical Director of Assisi Hospice from 1994 to 1999. She received the national award, the Public Service Medal (PBM), in 1997 for her contributions to hospice care in Singapore. Dr Goh was President of the Pain Association of Singapore from 2001 to 2005 and Founding President of the Association of South East Asian Pain Societies (ASEAPS) from 2004 to 2007. She helped found the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) and co-chaired it from 2008 to 2014. Dr. Goh currently chairs the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN) and was involved in its formation since 1996. Her major interests are in leading APHN projects to help build capacity for palliative care in countries like Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and India.
Professor David Kissane
Professor David Kissane is an academic psychiatrist, psycho-oncology researcher and palliative care physician. He is currently Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, Monash University, Australia; previously Chairman, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York; and before that, Foundation Chair of Palliative Medicine, University of Melbourne. His academic interests include group, couples, family and individual psychotherapy trials, communication skills training, demoralization and existential distress, bereavement and ethics of end-of-life care. Recent books include Oxford Textbook of Communication in Oncology and Palliative Care (2017), Management of Anxiety and Depression (2017), and Bereavement Care for Families (2014).
Associate Professor Chan Chi-ho, Wallace
陳智豪博士,現職香港中文大學社會工作學系副教授。他是一位註冊社工,具註冊生死學教育者院士 (Fellow in Thanatology, ADEC)資格。 他的教學及研究興趣包括: 臨終照顧、哀傷輔導、意義治療、醫務社會工作等。他亦具有意義治療認可資格 (Diplomate of Logotherapy, Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy),因深受 Vitkor Frankl 創立的意義治療影響,致力發展本地的意義治療培訓。
Ms. Bonnie Tompkins
Bonnie Tompkins holds a Bachelor of Public Health with a specializing in Palliative Care. She currently works with Pallium Canada as the Compassionate Communities National Lead, which has her focusing on mobilizing compassionate communities across Canada. She has also lead two compassionate community (CC) initiative in Burlington and Niagara West Ontario.
